Well done to our Senior hurlers who defeated Thurles Sarsfields in the Mid Tipperary Senior hurling Championship at the Ragg this afternoon. Playing against a stiff breeze in the opening half Brackens started brightly with opening points from Eoin Fitzpatrick (2) and Shane Bourke (2). A goal for Sars followed by three pointed frees gave them a five point cushion approaching the break but a goal of our own from Bourke and another point from Fitzpatrick left the half-time score at 1-8 to 1-7 in favour of Thurles. Brackens got a great start to the third quarter when Lorcan Roche pounced on a breaking ball to calmly finish to the net and this was quickly followed by Eanna McBride's second point from play. Wind assisted it looked like Brackens might kick on but back came the Blues to score four unanswered points to hit the front entering the final quarter. A super long distance Lyndon Fairbrother free drew us level before David O'Shea on the right wing and Shane Bourke on the left landed two beauties to put us ahead. Two excellent Paddy Cadell points gave us breathing space before McBride completed the scoring with his third from play - a very valuable contribution from midfield. Final Score; 2-14 to 1-13. Following tonight's last four draw Moycarkey play Upperchurch while Brackens have drawn neighbours Drom. A cracking contest in store here and nothing like the Ragg boys to focus the minds of the Brackens players. These two have had some cracking battles in recent years and as we get down to the business end of the season players and supporters alike will be licking their lips in anticipation of this one. Lots of big games coming thick and fast. Plenty of others would love to be where Brackens are at the moment. Throw-in next Sunday in Holycross is at 3.45pm. Bring it on. Brackens Abu.
