Well done to our Senior football team who ground out a hard earned victory (2-11 to 1-10) over Upperchurch/Drombane in last night's county quarter-final. After a tight opening quarter the sides were locked at 0-3 apiece with Dean McEnroe accounting for Brackens tally. The second quarter saw us kick three points on the trot with Neil Quinlan contributing two from play along with another McEnroe free. The Church closed the first half scoring with a point to leave us o-6 to 0-4 ahead at the break. Eanna McBride opened our account with a point in the second half and when Lyndon Fairbrother chipped in with 1-1 to put us five up we looked set for home. But the black and amber were in no mood to give up and they hit a purple patch scoring 1-3 to hit the front ( 1-9 to 1-8 ) with 10 mins remaining. Winning a number of county finals in the last few years brings it's fair share of experience too and that winning habit is so important. The boys re-grouped, never lost their composure, equalised and when the killer moment presented itself Shane Scully made no mistake, hitting the onion bag to seal the deal. Neil Quinlan completed his hat-trick to provide the guard to the knave. ( four points from play from the half-back line - well done). This was a tough, physical encounter against a well prepared Upperchurch team and Brackens can take great credit for coming out the other side. We now join Clonmel Commercials, Moyle Rovers and Loughmore Castleiney in the hat for Sunday evening's draw. Time to get to the County final. 1963 is a lifetime ago. Up the Brackens.
