An awful lot has happened in the world since 1963 but until today in Cashel our parish had not reached the County Tipperary Senior Football final since the first James Bond film, Dr. No, was released in the same year. So hats off to all involved in today's fantastic one point victory over defending champions Moyle Rovers. (2-11 to 1-13 ). You've all heard it so often - " goals win games " - and ultimately today's opening two goal salvo proved to be the decisive factor in the end. Brackens began at a blistering pace with Dean McEnroe and Shane Scully rattling the net in the opening eight minutes. Cathal Scully's direct running was causing endless problems for the South men and brother Shane popped over two more from play in the twelfth minute. (2-2 to 0-2). A successful Moyle Rovers penalty ( 14th min ) was sandwiched between a Shane Doyle brace from play to leave it double scores after sixteen minutes. Following that frenetic opening quarter the pace understandably dropped a little with both sides adding three points apiece before the interval - Brackens coming courtesy of three Dean McEnroe frees. ( HT: 2-7 to 1-5 ). McEnroe and Liam Boland landed two frees each in the opening ten minutes of the second half before Moyle Rovers landed three on the trot to close the gap to two with ten mins left. A beauty from Neil Quinlan steadied the ship but the Moyle Rovers tsunami kept on coming and with six to go it was back to the minimum (2-10 to 1-12). Another sally upfield from Quinlan got us another point which was cancelled out almost immediately by Boland. Four minutes, plus three more of injury time, was spent almost exclusively in the Brackens half but that old winning habit serves you well when your backs are to the wall. Endless attacks were repelled before referee Seanie Peters blew time on 56 years of near misses. Another fence jumped. Another monkey off our back. Now for the last one. 83 years since we defeated Arravale Rovers in Thurles. Time for our third title. Clonmel await. Brackens Abu.
