Well done to our Senior footballers who rounded off a fabulous year in style when they defeated old rivals Loughmore to capture their first crown since 2014. Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze in the opening half Brackens got off to a flyer when Cathal Scully goaled in our opening attack and this was quickly followed up by points from Dean McEnroe (2), Lorcan Egan and James Bergin to open up a six point lead after eight minutes. Loughmore hit back quickly with a major and two minors to leave the minimum between them after the opening quarter. Paddy Cadell and Andrew Ormond cancelled out two Liam McGrath points to leave the half-time score 1-6 to 1-5 in our favour. And once again we were out of the traps like a rocket at the beginning of the second half with a Dean McEnroe free followed by a Shane Scully goal to put us five up. Liam Treacy's dismissal added to Loughmore's woes but they stuck to their task and backed by the breeze they rattled off five points on the bounce to tie it up with eleven minutes to go. However they never troubled the scorekeeper after that with Shane Scully's second goal and Andy Ormond's second point sealing the deal. Well to all those winning a Mid Senior football medal for the first time today and also to Brendan Guider who made history today by becoming the first Brackens player to collect 6 winners medals ( 02, 06, 11, 13, 14 & 19) equalling the achievement of Kieran Holland with Templemore Eire Og in the 1930's. Congrats also to Paudie Bourke who completed the player/manager double having captained us to our last success in 2014. Great way to end the year. Well done Boys. Brackens Abu.
