Congratulations to our Senior footballers who booked their place in this years County final following their nail-biting 1-14 to 1-13 victory over Upperchurch/Drombane in the Ragg this afternoon. In a game that flowed much better than last years quarter-final, Brackens were in great form early on and led by 0-7 to 0-4 after twenty minutes thanks to scores from Jack Kennedy (3), Lyndon Fairbrother (2), Jordan Moloney and Neil Quinlan. Aaron Ryan's goal briefly drew the 'Church level but a great team move saw Brackens respond with a goal of their own thanks to Cathal Scully. AJ Shanahan's red card in the 24th minute was a big blow for Upperchurch and when two Jack Kennedy points stretched the lead out to five Brackens looked likely winners. But points from Jack Butler, Paul Shanahan and Niall Grant closed the gap to two at half-time with Brackens 1-9 to 1-7 ahead. The second half was a much tighter affair with the' Church carrying the fight to Brackens. The scores dried up a little too with the sides sharing six points in the opening twenty minutes, Kennedy, Moloney and Eanna McBride on target for Brackens who now led by 1-12 to 1-10 with ten minutes to go. An excellent '45 from Kennedy stretched it to three before Paul Shanahan from a free and Conor Fahy from play left just a point between the sides with 56 minutes gone. Shane Scully. on for Cathal, kicked a vital point in the 6oth minute before Paul Shanahan reduced the lead to a point once more with a free in the 62nd minute. Try as they may they couldn't find the equaliser and Brackens hung on to qualify for their second county final in five years. Well done to all involved and the very best of luck in the final. The second semi-final takes place in Ardfinnan tomorrow at 2pm when Clonmel Commercials take on Moyle Rovers. The County final will take place in two weeks time.
