Our Senior football league campaign came to an end in the Park on Saturday evening last when Moyle Rovers claimed victory on a 2-14 to 2-12 score line. The sides were level 2-7 apiece at the break, Jack Kennedy and Michael Cahill with the goals. It was nip and tuck throughout the second half with the South boys doing just enough to win. The lads will now concentrate on preparations for the County Senior football championship which will commence in August. Brackens are placed in Group 1 alongside Kilsheelan/Kilcash, Grangemockler/Ballyneale and Ardfinnan. In Juvenile action our U-13 (Group 1) team have progressed to the County final following a hard fought 2-12 to 0-5 win over Rockwell Rovers in Holycross on Tuesday evening. Brackens led 0-7 to 0-3 at the break but turned the screw early in the second half thanks to goals from Danny McGuinness (pen), and Robert Myles while Dylan Fennell contributed four excellent points from play. Moyle Rovers will provide the opposition in the final following their victory over Nenagh in the second semi-final (2-8 to 2-3). The final takes place in Cashel on Saturday next (June 1st) at 2.30pm as Brackens aim to capture their first title at this grade (including the old U-12 grade). Thursday nights saw our U-15 footballers face Aherlow in the county semi-final in Holycross. Nothing could separate the sides in normal time as Brackens fought back from six points down to force extra time ( 5-7 to 3-13). Despite a good start to the additional time it was Fethard who proved strongest to record a 4-16 to 5-11 victory. Well done to all the squad and management for your effort to date as attention now turns to the hurling campaign.
