Moycarkey Borris 4.08
JK Brackens 4.10
Ref: Sean Everard
This truly was a real test of nerve and faith in your ability after JK Brackens over turned an eleven point deficit to claim a first U12 Group title in seventeen years.
The qualit1y of play matched the fine setting that is Moycarkey Borris’s new pitch imagine the thoughts of those young players as throw in time approached. The Moycarkey boys produced twenty of the best minutes of football we’ve seen for a long time. They had a score every two minutes the first two were taken by key players David Costigan & Tom Ryan. JK Brackens couldn’t handle Jack Hayes up front he hit two points to extend the lead. Brackens finally got on the scoreboard having their best first half spell going on to take the lead. Points from Dylan Quinlan & Jack Marnell were followed up by the first of the games eight goals thanks to Jamie Ormond. This was like a red rag to a bull the Moycarkey boys thanks to Jack Hayes hit 2.01 to retake the lead. Brackens had two points across the remaining minutes Jamie Ormond & Cormac Foy. This was easily cancelled out by Moycarkey’s 1.02 the main man Jack Hayes completed his hat trick adding another point while Tom Ryan hit his second, half-time 4.06 – 1.04
If Moycarkey put in one of the best twenty minutes we’ve ever seen JK Brackens matched that and went a touch better. Within minutes the deficit was more than halved Dayle Hogan got things going his point came before a two goal salvo. Dayle got the first, Jack Marnel the other. The evening was cooling but the temperature of the game was rising. A real team effort got Brackens over the line here with six different scorers Cian Sheedy got the first of the four points to draw them level. Jamie Ormond with a point either side of Cormac Foy’s effort. The Borris boys were on their knees and couldn’t get back up. Cormac Foy hit his final point to take the lead the crucial game winning score came from the boot of Cian Sheedy no stranger to Mid final winning scores hit the goal. From half-time and having two hands on the trophy the realisation of losing the match sparked a response Jack Hayes got back in stride with two points. They were never going to get the goal needed as the final whistle blew.
This was a heart stopping game and should it be the last U12 final it will be talked about for a long time to come. The core of this Moycarkey Borris team will have learned so much over the last two years. They will have a real pep in their step for the hurling we wish them well. JK Brackens have been perennial semi-finalists U12-G1 making a final some four years ago. They finally broke that spell and what a fashion to do it in, A very proud Michael Delaney presented the trophy to captain Robert Lee.
