Congratulations to our U14’s who on Monday morning were crowned Mid Feile B champions by defeating Drom/Inch on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-02.
This wasn’t as one sided as the scoreline would suggest, in fact there was some intense battles all over the field and some fine hurling displayed from both sides. Brackens got the ideal start after a couple of minutes when Josh Quinlan who worked tirelessly all day delivered a long high ball into the full forward line to find Daniel Joyce one on one with the full back, Daniel caught the ball over the full backs head turned and blasted past David Kinane in the Drom goal. Jamie Ormond turned on the style after that and despite being closely monitored by Joey Black managed to hit 4 points in a row before one of Michael Cahills trade mark runs finally paid off and he chipped in with a point. Patrick Hickey rounded off the first half scoring with a lovely long range point to lead at the break 1-06 to 0-0.
The second half started in a similar fashion to the first half when Ciaran O Shea gathered the ball on the wing, went on a solo run and managed to chip it over Kinane in the Drom goal for the teams second goal, Michael Coffey converted a free shortly after that before Jamie Ormond went on another scoring spree hitting another 4 points to bring his tally to 8 for the day. Patrick Hickey hit another long range point while Michael Coffey scored his second point of the day, this time from play and Jack Marnell rounded off the scoring for Brackens with a point from a free. Drom managed 1-02 in the second half despite the brilliant work put in by all the backs.
Joint captains Ned Delaney and Michael Coffey accepted the Mid Feile trophy from Mid Chairman Michael Delaney with mid secretary Catherine Dunne and sponsor Jimmy Coppinger in attendance.
