Great start for hurlers

The more things change the more they say the same. While the game took a totally different route to last August’s meeting the end result was almost identical with Brackens seven point triumph only one less than last year. In effect the game was won in the first five mins as the board read 2-3 to 0-1. Jordan’s run and pass set up Andy for the first major quickly followed by Lyndon’s haymaker. Andy’s double was matched by Mary’s opener to leave us seven up at sos. Bunny’s bullet from the spot and backed by the lively breeze seem to indicate safe passage. Heavy pressure applied, a second Mary’s major and down to 14 saw the lead reduced to two with a third to go. Panic in the olden days. Not anymore. To their credit the lads played some of their best hurling in this period and also showed great fitness levels to eventually close out the game on a 4-14 to 2-13 scoreline.
