Hard luck to our U-16 hurlers who lost their opening Mid Championship fixture against Upperchurch tonight. Under pressure from the off the Black and Amber landed two early goals to lead by seven points after the opening quarter with the impressive Pa Ryan at full forward causing endless problems. A well taken Fionn Kavanagh goal gave Brackens hope but the Church hit another major to lead at the break by 3-6 to 1-4. Brackens were a different team after the cuppa and Joe Bourke hit three points in the opening 5 minutes to close the gap. A Tommy Martin major followed by a Bryan Bourke minor reduced the lead to two ( 3-9 to 2-10 ) but ultimately it was to be Ryan who proved the difference as he another 3 points in the closing minutes finishing the game with a personal tally of 2-10.
