Hard luck to our Senior hurling team who suffered their first championship defeat of the season when going down to Drom-Inch by two points in Holycross on Sunday afternoon in the Mid semi-final. High scoring games are generally the norm nowadays but this was a game dominated in the main by both defences. Brackens were dealt a major blow early on when ace marksman Andrew Ormond succumbed to a rib injury but with Lyndon Fairbrother on song from frees and Shane Bourke excelling from play the lads matched Drom right throughout the opening half to retire level at 0-8 apiece. The third quarter belonged to Drom as they hit 5 unanswered points and looked set for home. Brackens needed to stem the tide and the introduction of Adrian Bourke and Dean McEnroe provided just the tonic as the former goaled and the latter pointed to bring us right back into contention. That extra bit of experience told in the end however as Drom finished the stronger in attack to hold on for a 0-20 to 1-15 scoreline. Having not played a championship match at this level in almost twelve months ( last year's semi against Sars) the boys proved that they are more than capable in this company. The importance of joining the top 16 for 2020 is absolutely crucial.
