Despite missing a number of key players through a combination of Fitzgibbon Cup commitments and injury Brackens still proved too strong for Moycarkey/Borris in the opening round of the Mid U-21 A football championship played in Littleton last night. While the weather played havoc all day things settled down after dark and despite a nip in the air conditions were fine for the game. Conor Cadell got us a off to a flier with our opening major after 3 mins which was soon followed up with points from Diarmuid Delaney, Shane Doyle and Darragh Doyle before the latter added our second goal to put us well in command early on. Moycarkey rallied to add four points of their own to close the gap. A great move resulted in Mikey Egan being hauled down for a penalty which was well saved by the Moycarkey goalie but thankfully Shane Doyle made no mistake second time 'round to leave the half-time score 3-3 to 0-6. The Littleton based boys dominated the third quarter but rarely troubled the scorekeeper. The introduction of Luke Ormond and Tommy Martin added some extra zip to the forward line and they finished strongly with further goals from Darragh Doyle and Martin to leave the final score 5-8 to 0-10. We now play Holycross in the Park on Saturday at 3pm in Round 2.
