Our Senior footballers got their season up and running with victory over Clonmel Og in the opening round of the County League played at Pairc Shileain this morning. Brackens fielded a strong outfit with ten starters from last year's County final and two more introduced in the second half. The South men were runners-up to Moycarkey in last year's Intermediate Final and fielded the majority of that side. An opening point from the returning Neil Quinlan was quickly followed by a Shane Scully goal. Dean McEnroe landed a point from a free, debutant Conor Cadell landed another from play before Quinlan landed a major and a minor in quick succession. A lovely left foot strike from McEnroe and a gallop upfield from Mikey Egan yielded two more points while Quinlan's second green flag and a Shane Scully point from a mark left us 3-7 to 0-4 clear at half-time. Clonmel rallied at the beginning of the third quarter landing a goal from a penalty along with two points to cut the gap to seven but that was as good as it got. Brackens finished the game strongly with scores from McEnroe (1-1), Shane Scully and Shane Doyle to leave the final score 4-10 to 1-6.
