Despite the sending off of centre-back Johnny Ryan in the second minute Drom/Inch rallied to hold off the Brackens challenge in the second round of the Couny Senior hurling championship played in Semple Stadium on Sunday afternoon last. In a game that never really took off there was very little between the sides until David Butler, just as he did against Roscrea, came off the bench to land the match winning scores. Conor Cadell started in place of Dylan Moloney and within 51 seconds of his debut he had opened his scoring account with a fine point. Drom were dominant in that opening quarter and moved in to a three point lead with Andy Ormond getting our second point from play in the 13th minute. A brilliant catch and drive from Paddy Cadell resulted in a 15th minute penalty which Lyndon Fairbrother duly converted. Two more frees from Lyndon coupled with a second from Andrew Ormond put us two up but Drom finished the half as they started and tacked on four points to lead 0-10 to 1-5 at the break. Shane Doyle's introduction at half time reaped instant dividends when he scored a lovely point from play in the opening minute before two points from Lyndon Fairbrother saw us hit the front. A David Collins goal from a penalty saw Drom go ahead again while a line ball from Shane Doyle and two points in a minute from Lyndon and Andy saw the match all square. But ultimately it was Butler's 1-1 contribution that proved to be decisive with Drom running out 2-16 to 1-15 winners. It's Roscrea next where a win or a draw will ensure Dan Breen status for 2021 while there is still an outside chance of catching Kiladangan on score difference. All to play for.
