Well done to our Senior footballers who have advanced to the County quarter-finals following victory over Killenaule on Saturday evening last. Despite dominating possession for the opening twenty minutes, and holding the opposition scoreless, Brackens failed to transfer that advantage to the scoreboard as they managed just three points of their own through Cathal Scully, Jack Kennedy(45) and Paddy Cadell. A dip in concentration before the break proved costly as the Robins landed 2-4 to a lone Dean McEnroe point in reply to leave us six behind at the break. Brackens were reeling and found themselves in a big hole. To their credit they regained their composure and kicked five unaswered points after the break. Eanna McBride, Dean McEnroe, Lorcan Egan and two more from Kennedy saw the gap close to one and Brackens looked like they would push on. But two points in quick succession saw Killenaule edge three in front at the last water break by 2-6 to 0-9. Still three down with only six minutes left on the clock Brackens showed great composure to kick four points through Kennedy, Shane Doyle and two more from McEnroe to edge one in front before a Michael Doyle free levelled matters once more. A draw was enough to see Brackens through but Paddy Cadell wasn't taking that chance as he landed an inspirational point to ensure maximum points which saw us finish as group winners ahead of Loughmore on score difference. We now go into Friday nights draw where one of Ballyporeen, Ardfinnan or Upperchurch will provide our quarter-final opposition. This game is expected to go ahead on the weekend of October 23rd/24th.
