Our u17’s progressed to the A football county semi final after beating Arravale Rovers today in a very hard fought quarter final where their never say die attitude was to the fore again. For the second week in a row our lads didnt get off to a good start and Arravale had 1-05 on the scoreboard before we got our opening score which was a fortuitous goal from Joe Bourke who was half blocked and his deflected shot lobbed the keeper, to leave the score at 1-05 to 1-0 at the water. Our lads were a lot more settled after that and started working really well together, we managed to keep Arravale scoreless in the second quarter while we hit two more points, one from the first of Ned Delaney and the other from Joe Bourke to leave it 1-05 to 1-02 at half time. Brian Quinn must have found his shooting boots at half time because his second half display was a joy to watch. He hit seven points in a row, one more spectacular than the next. Arravale hit two in this period and we lead 1-09 to 1-07 at the last water break. Brian hit a free straight after the water break to leave us three up and looking in control, however another dramatic finish was on the cards and Arravale hit us for another goal to level it up with the clock running down. But our lads dug deep again and Brian Bourke and the Brian Quinn hit a point each and what most people tought was the winner but the clock went on and Arravale hit two more points to level up and take the game to extra time. Our lads really stepped it up in extra time and hit seven points in a row, three each from Brian Quinn and Jamie Ormond and one from Patrick Hickey, Arravale hit the final point of the game but I was too little too late as our lads ran out six point winners 1-19 to 2-10. They now face Clonmel Commercials in the county semi final next weekend
