Our Senior hurling campaign kicked off under lights in Borrisoleigh on Monday night as we faced Kilruane in the opening round of the County League. The North men opened in blistering fashion and had 3-6 on the board in the opening quarter in reply to four points for Brackens, scored by Lyndon Fairbrother (2) , Andrew Ormond and Neil Quinlan. A green flag from Ormond steadied the ship for Brackens and the teams shared ten points between there and the short whistle with Fairbrother (3), Ormond and Quinlan accounting for Brackens scores. Two more Fairbrother frees were matched by Kilruane before a Lorcan Roche goal reduced the deficit to five. In a bizarre five minute spell the teams shared four goals with Fairbrother and Martin Bergin on target to leave it 5-14 to 4-12 with ten minutes remaining. However it was the North boys who finished the stronger and ran out 6-19 to 4-14 winners. Next up for the hurlers is a trip to Clonoulty on April 3rd while the Senior footballers kick off their County League campaign on Sunday against Moyle Rovers in the Park at noon.
