Well done to our Senior hurlers who claimed their first League points of the campaign with a 4-14 to 1-21 victory over Thurles Sarsfields in Toor tonight. On a beautiful evening for hurling this was a very entertaining affair which was very well contested right to the final whistle. It was nip and tuck in the opening quarter with the Blues edging it 0-5 to 0-4. Lyndon Fairbrother (2), Shane Doyle and David O'Shea were all on the mark from play. Brackens dominated the second quarter with Cathal Scully, Shane Bourke and Doyle again adding three more from play to put us ahead (0-7 to 0-5). Two Fairbrother frees put us three ahead (0-9 to 0-6) after 23 minutes. There was a flurry of scores before the break with Brackens outscoring Thurles by 2-2 to 0-5. David O'Shea accounted for the points while Shane Bourke and Shane Doyle added the majors to leave us six up at the short whistle (2-11 to 0-11). Sars rallied strong after the break and landed nine points in the opening sixteen minutes in reply to two from Brackens through Shane Bourke and David O'Shea. The Blues now led by one (2-13 to 0-20) but back came Brackens with a Shane Doyle goal to restore our two point advantage. And when Fairbrother billowed the net for our fourth major we led by five with five remaining. The Sars struck their only goal to reduce it to two. A Shane Bourke point from play shoved it out to three before Sars had the last point of the evening to leave Brackens two ahead at the long whistle.
