Our Junior A hurlers got off to a flying start in the opening round of the Mid Championship in the Park on Sunday evening last. Brackens set their stall out very early when Darragh Doyle caught a great ball in the first minute before being hauled down for a penalty which he duly buried. It was just the tonic Brackens needed and they went on to completely dominate the opening half. Points from play from Lorcan Roche, Diarmuid Delaney and Lorcan Egan were added to by four frees from Darragh to leave Brackens 1-7 to 0-3 ahead at the short whistle. And when the 'Church were reduced to fourteen men in the third quarter it looked to be all over. To their credit they rallied for a while but the extra man eventually took its toll. Points from Shane Scully, Joe Bourke and Egan again along with five more placed balls from the accurate Darragh Doyle left Brackens 1-15 to 0-12 ahead at the final whistle. There is no Junior A hurling this weekend and Brackens have a bye in Rd. 2 so they won't be in action again until the weekend of July 16th/17th.
