The Mid U-19 A hurling championship began on Wednesday with Brackens recording a fine 1-21 to 1-8 victory over Moycarkey in Littleton. In a game that Brackens controlled from the outset they started brightly with Joe Bourke landing 1-3 early on. Moycarkey offered little in attack with the Brackens defence well on top. Points from James Ryan, Jamie Ormond, Bryan Bourke and Mikey Delaney gave Brackens a 1-7 to 0-4 advantage but the home side got a great tonic when they goaled just before the break, (HT: 1-7 to 1-4). But with the stiff breeze behind them for the second half Brackens kicked on to outscore their opponents by 0-14 to 0-4 after the break to run out convincing winners on a 1-21 to 1-8 score line. Next up are the Sars in Clonmore next Wednesday night at 7.3pm
