The quarter-final of the Cahill Cup took place in Castleiney on Wednesday evening. In a keenly contested opening half Brackens led by a goal at the short whistle, 1-11 to 0-11, the major coming from Ned Delaney. Lyndon Fairbrother (6), Eoin Fitzpatrick (3), Diarmuid Delaney and Ned Walsh contributed the points. Brackens outscored Loughmore by 0-7 to -01 in the opening thirteen minutes of the second half to stretch the lead to nine. Loughmore rallied soon after with a well taken Ed Connolly goal to close the gap to four. But a goal from Diarmuid Delaney two minutes later killed off the brief home comeback and Brackens went on to win by eight. Fairbrother (5), Andrew Ormond (2), Darragh Doyle (2), Neil Quinlan and Jack Kennedy accounted for the second half points. Holycross will provide the opposition in the semi-final while Moycarkey (defeated Upperchurch) take on Thurles Sarsfields (defeated Drom) in the other semi-final. These matches are expected to take place on May 16th or 17th. Fixture details will be confirmed shortly.
