Our Senior hurlers concluded their County League campaign with a win over neighbours Drom/Inch at the Ragg on Thursday evening. Despite torrential downpours earlier in the day the weather held up for the game which was a lively encounter throughout. It was also quite competitive despite the fact that neither side could progress to the knockout stages. Andrew Ormond and Shane Doyle were in excellent scoring form in the opening half as Brackens opened up a four point lead after twenty minutes thanks to Doyle's goal (1-9 to 0-8). Lyndon Fairbrother fired over five frees and David O'Shea had one from play to leave Brackens 1-12 to 0-12 ahead at the break. Darragh Doyle and another from O'Shea pushed Brackens five clear early in the second half before Maidhc Fitzpatrick's well taken goal closed the gap to two. Nine of Brackens next ten points came from the stick of Fairbrother as persistent Drom fouling cost them dear. O'Shea's third, Ormond's fourth and Doyle's fourth put the game to bed as Brackens ran out seven point winners on a 1-27 to 1-20 scoreline. Brackens can be very satisfied with their League campaign recording three wins and two very narrow losses. They also have a Cahill Cup semi-final to look forward to, away to Holycross on Tuseday evening next at 7.15pm.
