Our Senior footballers recorded their second win of the campaign when they came from behind to defeat Ballyporeen 1-14 to 1-11 in Golden on Sunday afternoon last. They face Rockwell Rovers in their final group game which takes place on the first weekend in September. Our Intermediate footballers lost out to Mullinahone in the second round of the County Championship in Killenaule. Played in horrendous conditions the lads were defeated 2-9 to 1-7. Both players, management and the few hardy souls that travelled to support them deserve special mention for braving the elements. We turn to hurling this weekend with all three teams in action. Our Junior B hurlers take on Sarsfields on Friday night while both our Junior A’s and Seniors are in Sunday action. The Junior A’s take on Moycarkey/Borris in the Mid semi-final with the winners facing Holycross in the decider. Our Seniors take on Drom/Inch in their final round-robin game with little more than local bragging rights at stake. Drom have already topped the group and qualified for the County quarters while Brackens face a relegation battle having lost both their opening games. However, both sides will want a good performance ahead of these crucial games. See fixtures for full details. Our U-11’s had a marvellous day out on Sunday last when they were invited to the St. Brigid’s club in Dublin for the inaugural Cian Walsh Memorial hurling blitz. Cian was a local boy who died from a heart condition in 2020 aged just seven. Brackens were honoured to be invited by our own local hero and former club stalwart Sean Collum who is now involved with St. Brigid’s. The boys had a marvellous time and were treated very kindly by the host club. Well done to young Jack Coleman who claimed his third 50/50 Jackpot worth €470. He’ll be delighted with Grandad Seamus who bought him the winning ticket for the third time. The brand new County Board draw kicks off this Friday evening. With cars and cash galore on offer there’s still plenty of time to join in time for the opening draw. If you wish to come on board please contact our draw coordinator Tony Sheedy on 086-8319066. This is a very valuable fundraiser for our club with half your subscription going directly back to the club. We offer our deepest sympathies to the O’Brien family on the recent passing of Derek. May he rest in peace.
Sean Collum and Paddy Clarke started in Junior Infants on the same day in 1977 and they were both delighted to meet up with each other again in Dublin on Sunday last at the Cian Walsh memorial in St. Brigid’s. Also in the photo are Paddy’s wife Lorraine, children Paul, Daniel and Ciara and Sean’s sons Tomas and Oisin.
